Tradition is Innovation in Seoul

Tradition is Innovation will be held at Yonsei University in Seoul, from 28 October to 9 November 2013, and at Mimesis Art Museum in Paju Book City, from 26 October to 28 February.

The exhibition Tradition is Innovation wishes to present a point of view about the present and future of portuguese architecture. Eight architecture offices present their creative process, critical thought and responsibility as architects regarding the contemporary society, in video-interview format.
Tradition is Innovation presents 15 projects, built in the last 5 years, by the architecture offices of João Ventura Trindade, Ricardo Carvalho and Joana Vilhena, Ricardo Bak Gordon, João Luís Carrilho da Graça, Manuel Aires Mateus, Inês Vieira da Silva and Miguel Vieira, Nuno Brandão Costa and Eduardo Souto de Moura, which reflect a particular political, economical and territorial context.
With an experimental exhibition structure – video-interview – this exhibition wishes to question “What is an architecture exhibition?”.
The exhibition was held at the Living Design Centre Ozone Gallery in Tokyo as a parallel event of the 24th World Congress of Architecture UIA 2011; at the Radlab Gallery in Kyoto; at the 9th International Architecture Biennial of São Paulo, as the official Portuguese representation; at the Portuguese Architects Association Gallery in Lisbon; and in Fukuoka, at the Renovation Museum Reizensou.
The exhibition will be present at the Yonsei University in Seul, and at the Mimesis Art Museum in Paju Book City, between November 2013 and February 2014, by invitation of the Portuguese Embassy in Seul.
The exhibition opens at the Yonsei University in Seul on the 28th of October, with a lecture by the curators Yutaka Shiki and Gonçalo Baptista. In this lecture, the curators will talk about the ideas behind the exhibition, the architects and works on display.
